Effect of pretreatment with small dose of succinylcholine(Sch) on the Sch-induced. increase in intraocular pressure (IOP)

Abstract
It is well known that Sch induce an increase in IOP by muscular fasciculation.
Verma reported that pretreatment with small dose of Sch inhibited Schinduced fasciculation and increase in IOP.
The authers administered an usual dose of Sch(lmg/kg) after pretreatment with small dose of Sch(20ozg) intravenously under thiopental anesthesia and observed effect on Sch-induced increase in IOP and fasciculation in 26 surgical patients.
The following were the results.
1. The usual dose of Sch caused a significant increase in IOP under thiopental anesthesia.
2. The pretreatment with small dose of Sch inhibited Sch-induced fasciculation, but didn¢¥t inhibit Sch-induced increase in IOP.
3. The pretreatment with small dose of Sch itself. caused a significant increase in IOP but decreased Sch-induced fasciculation.
4. Under halothane anesthesia, usual dose of Sch didn¢¥t show Sch-induced increase in TOP and fasciculation.
5. It maybe suggested that Sch-induced increase in IOP didn¢¥t be caused only by Sch-induced fasciculation.
